Kilimanjaro Routes
There are several Kilimanjaro routes to choose from, each with its own set of unique features and challenges. Choosing the right route will depend on your fitness level, climbing experience, and personal preferences.
If you are an adventure enthusiast and looking for an experience of a lifetime, climbing Mount Kilimanjaro is something that should be on your bucket list. Standing tall at 5,895 meters, it is the tallest free-standing mountain in the world and the highest peak in Africa. However, planning a successful climb requires proper preparation and choosing the right Kilimanjaro route is crucial.
You may climb Mount Kilimanjaro by several routes which have been established by the Tanzania National Parks Authority in order to preserve the pristine beauty of the wilderness for the generations to come and ensure the safety of climbers.
We recommend Lemosho and Rongai routes for novices, Northern Circuit and Machame for the beginners, and Marangu and Umbwe for climbers with prior hiking experience. Camping is required on all routes except Marangu (where climbers sleep in huts).
5 Days Marangu Route
Marangu Route is the oldest, easiest and shortest route to the summit on Kilimanjaro and is the most popular – mainly because it is the only route on the mountain that has huts provided for hikers. There are 60 bunk beds each at Mandara and Kibo Huts, and 120 bunk beds at Horombo Hut.
All climbing groups, often from several countries around the world, share meals in dining huts providing a jovial and energetic atmosphere.
6 Days Machame Route
The 6 Days trekking via Machame Route takes you to the roof of Africa the Kilimanjaro Mountain. The longer days of walking and steeper ascents, providing a bigger challenge and thus an even greater reward when you reach the summit.
The Machame route, also known as the “Whiskey” route, is one of the most scenic Kilimanjaro routes. It is also one of the most popular routes and offers a higher success rate of around 85%. The Machame route is a bit longer than the Marangu route and requires more physical fitness, but it is a good option for those who want a challenging climb with breathtaking views.
