Marangu Route is the oldest, easiest and shortest route to the summit on Kilimanjaro and is the most popular – mainly because it is the only route on the mountain that has huts provided for hikers. There are 60 bunk beds each at Mandara and Kibo Huts, and 120 bunk beds at Horombo Hut.
All climbing groups, often from several countries around the world, share meals in dining huts providing a jovial and energetic atmosphere.
After breakfast and a briefing, you will depart for Marangu Gate on the eastern side of Kilimanjaro. Register at the gate and begin your hike in the late morning. As you pass through the rain forest, look out for the beautiful bird life and colobus monkeys. Stop at the halfway point for lunch before reaching the Mandara Huts in the early afternoon. Enjoy the surroundings and relax before dinner and overnight.
An early breakfast before heading out through the rain forest glades and following the path to the heathlands. Continue up into the open moorlands, filled with small shrubs. Stop halfway for lunch and enjoy amazing views of Mawenzi.
Arrive at Horombo Huts in the afternoon where you will be able to see Kibo’s summit. You may start to feel the effects of the altitude here. Here you will relax before dinner and overnight.

Another 2 hours of hiking along the crater rim will get you to the peak by mid-morning. Experience the excitement of the summit as you are filled with emotions of accomplishment, having successfully made your journey to the top of Africa’s highest peak.
After some photos, descend to Kibo Huts for some lunch and a rest before heading back down to Horombo Huts.
