Tour Overview

The 7 Days trekking via Machame Route takes you to the roof of Africa the Kilimanjaro Mountain. The longer days of walking and steeper ascents, providing a bigger challenge and thus an even greater reward when you reach the summit.

Begin at the Machame gate and make your way through the rainforest before hiking up to the Shira Plateau. Wind your way up the mountain, passing the Lava Tower and the Great Barranco Wall.

On the final stretch you will pass Stella Point and experience the most spectacular sunrise you have ever seen before the final push to Uhuru Peak.

ITINERARY

Day 1 Arusha – Machame Gate – Machame Camp

After an early breakfast, you will be picked up at your hotel and make your way to Machame village. Meet your climbing crew and register before beginning your journey with a hike into the rainforest. Keep an eye out for the colobus monkeys and the many beautiful birds in the forest. Stop for a lunch break before pushing through to Machame Camp in the late afternoon. Arrive to a set up camp and a tasty meal.

Day 2  Machame Camp – Shira Camp
After an early breakfast, you will begin the days walking by making your way out of the rainforest and entering the moorland. Cross numerous streams before walking over a rocky ridge onto the Shira Plateau that leads up to Shira Camp where you will spend the evening. Here you will be beside a stream and have a spectacular view of the western breach and its glaciers in the east. Enjoy a warm meal after a good day of hiking and settle in for a cold night.

Day 03 Shira Camp– Lava Tower – Barranco Camp
After breakfast you will hike into the semi-desert region, a rocky landscape. Make your way up to the towering Lava Tower where you will enjoy a packed lunch. Here you may feel slightly light headed and be short of breath. This is normal and part of the acclimatization process. After lunch you will descend down to Barranco Camp located in a valley below the breach and the Great Barranco for dinner and Overnight

Day 4 Barranco Camp – Karanga camp
After an early breakfast, it is time to conquer the Great Barranco Wall. Although it may look intimating at first glance, hikers have said that the Class 2 hike is usually much easier than it looks. At the top of the wall you will have a beautiful view of the Heim Glacier and at this point you will be above the clouds. The trail then winds up and down through the Karanga Valley, providing an ideal acclimatization day.

Day 5 Karanga camp – Barafu Camp
After breakfast, you will leave Karanga Camp on a trail that joins the Mweka Route trail, which is the trail used to descend the mountain after you have reached the summit. You will make your way up to Barafu Camp on a relatively short hike, giving you time to rest before the final push to the peak. The word ‘barafu’ means ‘ice’ in Swahili. The camp is located on a rocky ridge that is exposed to the wind, so familiarize yourself with the camp before dark. Enjoy an early dinner and briefing before heading to bed on the eve of your exciting summit attempt.

Day 06 Barafu Camp – Summit – Mweka Camp
Wake at midnight for a light breakfast and prepare for your push to the summit. The goal is to climb before dawn so that you can reach Uhuru Peak shortly after sunrise. The route heads northwest, ascending over stone scree. After about 6 hours, you will reach Stella Point, at an altitude of 5,685m, located on the crater rim. Enjoy the magnificent sunrise, before your final 2 hours push to the peak along the snow-covered trail.

Finally you will reach the top of the iconic Mount Kilimanjaro, an amazing accomplishment! Spend some time on the summit, enjoying the feelings of success and taking photographs before making your way back down the mountain.

Descend to Barafu Camp where you will be able to enjoy a hot lunch in the sun. Later you will continue down to Mweka camp for dinner and Overnight

Day 07 Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate – Arusha
Enjoy your final breakfast on the trek and take part in the big celebration, filled with dancing and singing. Thank your climbing team for their support on the mountain and bid farewell to them all as you make your way down to Mweka Gate. At the gate you will receive your summit certificate before making your way to Mweka village for your final stretch of the journey. Enjoy a hot lunch and later drive back to Arusha for dinner and Overnight.
